Some would say that Jennifer was leading a charmed life - a great
family, a university professor in her twenties, living her dream of
singing with the symphony and leading worship at her church. But in the
last 5 years, circumstances beyond her control led Jennifer to a
spiritual crossroads. Jennifer nearly died after losing a baby, her
beloved father was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease and her
two-year-old son began suffering symptoms of an unexplained and
terrifying neurological condition, Sensory Processing Disorder. In
these times of turmoil and grief, Jennifer had to decide if her faith
was a nice accent to her life, or the true basis for it. Thrust into a
crisis of faith she would never have chosen, Jennifer discovered God's
faithfulness in the real darkness and pain of loss and letting go. And
when she saw the miracles of healing for her son, and beauty in the
midst of her father's death, she knew her life and her faith would
never be the same. God had truly given her beauty from ashes as He
promises in Isaiah 61, and she desires nothing more than to glorify
Him.
While Jennifer has a classical music education, her experience as a
contemporary worship leader makes her music ministry relevant and
engaging. Her songwriting reflects her unique background and current
life experience. "The music is so joyful, and freeing at the same
time." Jennifer says about her music. "It’s very different from the
intricate beauty of the classical music I love so much, but it is very
real to me, and very immediate for the listener. People can relate to
my songs because they have been there themselves, and they understand
these experiences."
And so, through song and testimony, Jennifer talks about loss and
healing, she sings about God’s desire to have an intimate relationship
with each of us, and she prays that her words and music will lead
people to a closer walk with Him. She is an accomplished vocalist and
songwriter, and a humble leader of worship. Audiences love her
sincerity and the radiant joy that exudes from her.
"Jennifer's servant spirit, obvious passion, ingratiating humor,
inspiring lyrics and amazing musical abilities bless us all. Truly,
Jennifer Shaw is a gift to any worshiping community," says Tim
Heintzelman, Senior Pastor, Faith Covenant Church.
And Kevin Pound, Senior Pastor, Mandarin Presbyterian Church adds,
"We loved having Jennifer Shaw at our church. Her stunning voice and
music, as well as her personal story, touched our church deeply. I
would recommend her heartily to other churches."
Jennifer is encouraging and vulnerable while being very aware of her
humanness and the need we all have for a loving Christ. Whether she is
doing a Sunday night concert, special music in a morning service, or a
weekend retreat, she is the same person. Jennifer is on fire for her
Lord, she’s uniquely gifted and flawed, and is forever grateful! And
she looks forward to sharing her journey with audiences and
congregations when given the opportunity and privilege.
